Matt’s professional career began while attending Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music & Art, where he became the youngest member of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz High School program. At the age of 15, Matt went on his first tour, performing alto saxophone alongside saxophonist Bobby Watson, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, and Thelonious Monk Jr.

Matt continued studying saxophone at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, where he studied with the likes of Reggie Workman, Gerald Clayton, Roy Hargrove, Michael Wolff, Bobby Sanabria, Bernard Purdie, Ben Wendel, Vincent Herring, and more. In 2012, Matt became the lead saxophonist in Bobby Sanabria’s Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra and Charli Persip’s Supersound Big Band. In 2013, Matt started his own group, Monroe.

While writing his own music and releasing albums with Monroe, Matt was featured as a guest artist on Grammy Award winner Al Walser’s album, Al Walser Comes 2 Life. Matt also performed as a featured saxophonist at Al Walser’s pre-Grammy Awards events in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

In 2015, Matt joined Brandon Flowers of The Killers as the tenor saxophonist and keyboard player for The Desired Effect World Tour. He toured with Brandon through 2017, performing at some of the world’s most iconic venues and festivals, including Royal Albert Hall, Austin City Limits Music Festival, Life Is Beautiful Music Festival, Terminal 5 in New York City, The O2 Arena, and more.

In 2017, Matt was featured twice in Billboard Magazine for his work with Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records and was featured alongside CyHi the Prynce on his track and music video for “Long Damn Time.” Matt also performed on Techrow Records’ remixes of Tupac’s “Hit ’Em Up” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” contributing alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, vocals, and production. That same year, his group Monroe earned its first major show, opening for Ingrid Michaelson in New York.

In 2019, Monroe opened for Justin Timberlake on his Man of the Woods tour, as well as Aaron Carter on his Lovetour. Matt continued his musical work in New York City, composing, audio editing, and sound designing for film.

As a solo performer, Matt has since taken his saxophone to some of New York City’s most prestigious stages and sporting venues, including Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Madison Square Garden, Metlife Stadium, and Barclays Center. His solo performances showcase his ability to command massive venues through a combination of musicianship, energy, improvisation, and showmanship. Matt has also developed a dynamic live format performing alongside DJs, seamlessly blending live saxophone with the energy of a DJ set to create memorable experiences for audiences at weddings, private events, concerts, and major celebrations.
